An award-winning poet and teacher of ecopoetry, Meredith Davies Hadaway is the author of five collections of poetry. Hadaway’s work explores the birds, bugs, trees, marshes—and especially the waters—of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, evoking memory and mystery as they shape our braided lives. Hadaway has received fellowships from the Virginia Center for Creative Arts, an Individual Artist Award from the Maryland State Arts Council and multiple Pushcart nominations. Her collection, At The Narrows, won the 2015 Delmarva Book Prize for Creative Writing. She is currently the Sophie Kerr Poet-in-Residence at Washington College, where she teaches literature and creative writing.

PRS Guitars today announced its largest roster in the five-year history of the PRS Pulse Artist program. Nearly 20% bigger than any previous year, the class of 2025 comprises 137 artists from 27 countries including the USA, reflecting the program’s global scope and range of playing styles. The 2025 PRS Pulse Artists, like their predecessors, are making waves in local music scenes throughout the world and in the online guitar community. Additionally, four artists from the class of 2024 will be graduating to Official Artist status, an increased level of support, effective October 15, 2024: Leoni Jane Kennedy (United Kingdom), Pannasit Sukahotu (Thailand), Tomo-Zo (Japan), and Dimitri Peters (United States).

“The global music scene is teeming with remarkable talent deserving widespread recognition,” said PRS Guitars Director of Artist & Community Relations, Bev Fowler. “We created the PRS Pulse Artist program five years ago to highlight and support these up-and-coming guitar players. Through their various genres, they are expressing themselves through music that needs to be heard on a massive scale. The program also serves to connect these musicians with each other and to their local guitar dealers, increasing opportunities for development through community.”

PRS Guitars launched the PRS Pulse Artist program to help influential guitar players form stronger relationships with their go-to retail store and each other. The goal is to amplify these musicians and their art and help to connect more people through music. Through the program, artists are granted exclusive discounts on guitars, amps, and accessories through their local Authorized PRS Dealer. They also receive exposure through editorial content on the PRS Guitars website and posts on its social platforms. Adding “PRS Pulse Artist” to their resume has also helped these players connect with venues and potential sponsors.

“Becoming a PRS Pulse Artist opened so many doors to me, industry wise and for my mentality as a full-time musician and songwriter,” said Leoni Jane Kennedy. “Having industry giants such as PRS supporting my creativity has not only been a dream come true, but has shown me what a team should really be. Now that I’ve graduated into the Official Artist roster, I feel I’ve achieved something so foundational to my career and I couldn’t have asked for a better brand to represent and work with to show the world what I’m really made of. Maryland Society Tench Tilghman Chapter Seeks Funds for Vets’ Music Therapy

March 6, 2024 by Spy Desk Leave a Comment

Conway Gregory providing Andrew Parsley of CAR Biography of Andrew Jackson

On Saturday March 2, 2024, Andrew Parsley, age 16, President of the Maryland State Society of the Children of the American Revolution (MSSCAR) spoke about the work and contributions of the C.AR during a meeting of the Colonel Tench Tilghman Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) in Chestertown, Maryland.

Andrew gave a brief presentation about the C.A.R and his 2024 service project titled “Play It Loud” that supports the Warrior Music Foundation, and provides music therapy to veterans, active duty military and emergency service providers-and their families.  Research has shown that music theraphy helps veterans heal from post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD) and reduces the likely hood of veteran suicide. Andrew raised $250 in donations during his visit with the Colonel Tench Tilghman Chapter of the SAR toward reaching his $10,000 goal which will be donated to the Warrior Music Foundation that provides 12 weeks of free music lessons to veterans.

During the meeting with the SAR, Andrew played the first notes of 10 patriotic tunes on his trumpet and the first meeting participant to guess each of the tunes won a prize. Andrew often plays his trumpet when requested by the VFW during veteran funerals, VFW events, and wreath laying ceremonies.

Afterwards, Colonel Tench Tilghman Chapter President, Conway Gregory, presented Andrew with checks totaling $250 and a copy of the biography of President Andrew Jackson.

If you would like to help Andrew reach his $10,000 goal of providing free music lessons to veterans, you can mail a check payable to MSSCAR to David Schenck, Maryland CAR Treasurer, 1502 Providence Road, Towson, Maryland, 21286.

The next meeting of the Colonel Tench Tilghman will occur on Saturday April 13, 2024 in Chestertown, Maryland.  Prospective members are welcome to attend.  The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (NSSAR), founded in 1889, is a non-profit and non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American History, and promoting education to our future generations.

A Big Step for Centreville: Groundbreaking Ceremony for New QAC Public Schools Ad Building

February 28, 2024 by Spy Desk Leave a Comment

Queen Anne’s County Public Schools (QACPS) took a significant step forward in its infrastructure development with the groundbreaking ceremony held on February 22, 2024, for its new Administration Building. This event signifies the commencement of construction on a modern facility that will serve as the administrative hub for the public school system in Queen Anne’s County.

During the ceremony remarks were provided by Todd Mohn, County Administrator, Jim Moran, County Commission President, Helen Bennett, Board of Education President, and Dr. Patricia Saelens, Superintendent of Schools. The event was live streamed by Queen Anne’s County Television and can be viewed here https://www.youtube.com/live/Soe8wtl238k?si=EVisGWJfb8IzXVTC

In 1979, administrative operations for QACPS were relocated to the former Centreville High School building. This location is over 120 years old, and its age and inefficiency prompted the decision to pursue a new facility.

After a competitive selection process, Wheeler Goodman Masek, based in Stevensville, Maryland, was chosen to provide architectural design and project administration services for the new 34,000-square-foot central office building. Situated between the Queen Anne’s County Office Building and Queen Anne’s County High School in Centreville, the new facility will offer departmental offices, conference rooms, a multi-function meeting room, and various support spaces to accommodate the operations of the Board of Education.

The design of the central office building reflects a forward-thinking approach, with departmental office spaces organized in 4,000 square foot blocks to ensure flexibility and efficiency. Shed roof structures allow for diffused natural light, reducing the need for artificial lighting and promoting energy conservation. The exterior features a blend of materials, including red brick reminiscent of downtown Centreville, standing seam metal roofing, and translucent panels, creating a contemporary yet contextual aesthetic.

The new central office building is expected to be completed by Autumn 2025, following an anticipated 18 months of construction. Upon its completion, the facility will house modern, energy-efficient mechanical and electrical systems, including geothermal heating, ventilation, and cooling (HVAC), ensuring sustainability for years to come.

Once operational, the new central office building will provide an optimal environment for supporting the educational needs of Queen Anne’s County students and faculty.

The exhibition will run throughout the month of March, with an exclusive showcase during the First Friday Gallery Walk event on March 1, 5-8 p.m.

Dellario’s latest collection promises to transport viewers to the picturesque landscapes and charming towns of Italy, inspired by his travels. This exceptional showcase will feature 40 paintings created during Dellario’s immersive five-week journey through the Italian countryside in the fall of 2023.

Some were demonstrations during my painting workshops, and others created while on the road in between. It was an unforgettable experience, and I am very happy to share it with you.”

In a nod to Studio B Art Gallery’s longstanding support of artistic endeavors, the exhibition will also feature two paintings from each participant of the 2023 Tuscany workshop sponsored by the gallery.
