Get Your Groove On! Learn How to Jam With Others

April 23, 2024 by Chesapeake Forum Leave a Comment

Spend a few hours learning how to jam with others and pick up a lifetime of music and joy.

Whether you are a backroom strummer or a lapsed high school musician, Jamming for Everyone starting on Monday, May 6th at Chesapeake Forum, is, well, for everyone!

Join musician and teacher Jonathan Williams in a supportive, learning environment geared towards having fun!  Learn a few basic songs.  Understand how to play with others  – even if you don’t know the tune – and leave with the confidence to start your jam group or to fearlessly join one.

By the end of this three-session course, you will be able to use a lead sheet to accompany a simple vernacular tune.  You will learn how to use YouTube to find popular recordings in suitable keys to play along with, and be able to jam with a guitar or piano player playing a simple song like “You are my Sunshine,” “Chain of Fools” or “Hallelujah.”  You may also be able to play solos using a combination of lead sheet, knowledge of jamming practices and notation, and be able to modify lead sheet keys to better suit your instrument or the requirements of other musicians.

Jamming for Everyone is three sessions, Monday, May 6th, 13th, 20th from 1 – 3 PM. In person at the Easton Family YMCA.  $40.  To register, visit https://chesapeakeforum.org.
